After my mother passed away I started making and doing everything to honor her, my life as decided by me from April 26th , 2018 would be to keep alive the memories of Mumtaz.
The Letters to My Mother series of work started as a way for me to simply speak to my late mother, I made a mix of interactive pieces where viewers were asked to take a piece of the letter with them symbolically sending my messages to my mother and paintings of letters I wrote to my mother after her sudden demise in 2018. Progressively these works transformed into Woven Fabric and Clay tapestries, Crocheted and Embroidered pieces, Clay and Paper Mache works etc. Oftentimes using her clothes, threads, materials left behind by her. I also made up a script to speak to her in which can be seen in various material experiments here. This series is an ongoing one and as life progresses, new perspectives invite new materials to join this cathartic journey.
