After my mother passed away, I devoted myself to creating and engaging in activities that honor her memory. Since April 26th, 2018, I have committed to preserving the legacy of Mumtaz through various endeavors.
The "Letters to My Mother" series initially emerged as a personal means for me to communicate with my late mother. It began with interactive pieces, where viewers were invited to symbolically take a part of the letter, thereby sending my messages to her. This series evolved over time, encompassing paintings of letters composed after her sudden demise in 2018. Subsequently, these artworks took diverse forms, including Woven Fabric and Clay tapestries, Crocheted and Embroidered pieces, Clay, and Paper Mache works. Often, I incorporated her clothes, threads, and materials she left behind into these creations. Additionally, I devised a script to communicate with her, which is evident in various material experiments showcased here.
This series remains ongoing, and as life unfolds, new perspectives introduce fresh materials, enriching this cathartic journey.
